“For me, the camera is a sketch book, an instrument of intuition and spontaneity.” – Henri Cartier-Bresson
Edge Photographic & Design Studios was launched in 2007 by Myself, Trevor and Anel Minnaar. I completed my BTech (Photography) Honours degree in 2007 cum laude with a dissertation on the 12 official languages in South Africa titled “Portraits of a Nation” under the guidance of Waldemar Bussiahn for which I won gold in the Fuji Photographer of the year competition. Anel sadly passed away before she could complete her studies. Edge Photographic continued to become a fast growing photography company, with clients such as SABS, DHL international, Patleys, SALGA, NUTESA and many more.
To gain more experience, I moved to the United Kingdom in 2008 where I worked as a freelance photographer for photographic studios shooting commercial and advertising photography. In 2010, I moved into the field of medical photography at Ipswich Hospital in Suffolk, England. In 2012 I returned to South Africa to continue my trade as a photographer by using my skills that I had learned in the UK.
Photography is my love, I chose not to specialise in a genre of photography but instead decided to specialise in photography itself. this way I did not put any limits on myself. This gave me the confidence to approach any customer for any photographic work. In 2008 I had the opportunity to lecture photography at the Tshwane University of Technology where I gain the love of teaching photography. During the course of the last few years I have gained so much knowledge through the view finder where I was able to capture live moments in that fleeting second. The magic that one feels when you realised that you have captured a split second in time that can never be repeated is sometimes overwhelming. Being a photographer has made me see the world in completely different way and all the finer details make the story come alive whether a product shoot or a wedding. It made me sit back and watch how the world all comes together to be…just perfect!
